To new (or almost new) bourbon drinkers. It is my opinion that '09 Birthday Bourbon is one which you must drink and appreciate on your way to understanding bourbon in its varieties. The reviews on BD '09 are mixed for good reason, it is not an ordinary bourbon. It is challenging because of its age, because of its almost 'metallic' qualities and because the reviewers find so many different qualities in it and debate its merits. It is a bourbon which can help you define your own taste perferences.............and it is a reasonably priced 'first rate' bourbon in my opinion. If you think you know bourbon, think again..............and try this bourbon for a distinction with a difference.

Hi Mike! Good to see you back. I agree with you on Old Forester Birthday Bourbon being a demanding bourbon worthy of utmost attention. I always enjoy the hangtag's tasting notes. Don't know what is ment by "deep fruits", but I get the chocolate with a subtil coconut. I've never had a Birthday Bourbon that I didn't enjoy, and always look forward to it's release each year.

I agree, that this Bourbon might not please most Bourbon drinkers. It does seem to be an acquired and very unique flavor/taste profile.
