Why Jack Daniel's Single Barrel whiskey is so good

JDSB is 94 proof so it is not timid, but neither is it overtly alcoholic.

It is sweet and rich, but not really creamy or cloying, being sweetened to some degree, in my opinion, by the maple charcoal through which it is filtered in a final step before bottling.

It is oaky and slightly dry, but not the least bit tannic. And, it has a gracious amount of smokey/char flavor that adds a lot of interest to its complex flavors without overpowering the other taste elements.

It is sophisticated, delicate, and balanced, but certainly not harsh or thin.............and, its spice is proportional to its sweetness.

It is, in my estimation, one of the only American Whiskies which could be served to novice and experienced American Whiskey drinkers alike and have them both enjoy and appreciate it.

In my humble opinion, it is a Great American Whiskey. I am sipping from a freshly opened bottle and celebrating my good fortune in having it. It has no flaws of which I am aware and provides sheer sipping pleasure.

Come Back Jack and do it again!!.............I be having a hard time putting Jack back on the shelf.

Mike,

I've had the JDSB and it's pretty good (to my palate) but I'd say the export Silver Select is quite excellent. A relative picked me up a couple of bottles and upon opening, it became a favorite while it lasted.

I have a bottle dated 2004 that I have been nursing for some time and
agree it is rather tasty (unless you aren't a fan of JD, in which case it
may not appeal to you.) I recently picked up a few bottles 2009 dated
and can recommend a seller via PM if anyone is interested.

I do not drink, but my husband enjoys his Jack Daniels quite a bit. Our ten year anniversary is coming up, and I am looking to give him a very good bottle of whiskey, but have no idea where to begin.

I know he likes JD and Crown Royal XO, what are good suggestions for getting him higher end whiskies?

Thanks. :)

What a delightful thought, I'm sure he will like any choice you make. The are a number of suggestions but with the interest in high end Bourbons today the selection may be limited to whats on your local shelves. If you make a list of what's available we can certainly make some suggestions.
