Deals on Bourbon

Unread postby Birdo » Sat Apr 25, 2015 4:17 pm

One of the nice things about living in Louisville is a great selection of bourbon and often good deals. Kroger had $5 coupons on Knob creek, so I got a regular bottle net $22, a high proof single barrel net $31, and a bottle KC rye for $22.

Not to be out done, I also got two more Wild Turkey 101 for only $12.99/750ml in the plastic travel bottle.

I should be set for a while. Gonna try the KC Rye tonight, this is my first foray into rye.

I might just do that. Cheers.

It is getting harder to get good cheap bourbon. I site the Old Heaven Hill Gold Label removal from the shelves as an example. I love that stuff and there isn't anything like it near that price. No doubt that stuff is finding its way into more expensive, smaller bottles.

As a result, I've moved up market.

In the value category Heaven Hill products are still well represented around here. I sure appreciate those folks.

Just returned from Bardstown where Heaven Hill 6 y/o BiB was a shade over 10 bucks. What a deal.

Excellent point Joe, Think I'll get some white label. I'm a bit jilted since the Gold label is no more for now. What is your take on HH Green label? Its readily available in Louisville east end.

My favorite has always been VROHH 10 y/o, but it has been gone for a long time. The green label 6 y/o BiB for 10 bucks is worth it IMO.

green HH 6 year old 90 proof bourbon is hard to beat, especially at the $9-10 it runs here. I go through a lot of it. its great for sipping on, its great for mixers, it's great for when you need a cheap shooter to wind down, and the price is just a bonus. HH labeled stuff unfairly gets a bad rap. I consume more HH-labelled bourbon than probably any other bourbon, between the green 90 and the gold or white 100's.

Grabbed a bottle of HH BIB White label, will try Green label later. I thought Liquor Barn prices were a bit high on their mid shelf and top shelf stuff though. I did lots better at Kroger.

This bottle of white label is pretty good stuff, solid. I'm noticing a bit of mint in the finish that gives it a clean flavor.

Either I'm not up to par, or you know something I don't. I don't know of any OGD 101. Do you mean BiB ....at 100 proof?
