Question on finding a great whisky for $30-40

Unread postby tomguy99 » Tue Sep 04, 2012 11:11 pm

I'm sorry, if there was already a thread on this topic.

I was looking for a great gift.
my friend graduation.

I thought this would be the best to ask that question.

currently I live in a big enough city to find almost any kind of alcohol.

I was looking, at

4 roses single barrel
Wild turkey special reserve
and Hancocks President's Reserve

Are these good?
any other suggestions?

also keep in mind, my friends and I are not experienced whiskey drinkers.
I just want to get them something nice and enjoyable for just "regular drinkers"

You can't go wrong with 4 Roses Single Barrel. Spicy, fruity, nice finish.

Buffalo Trace's Old Weller Antique (107 proof) is the best sub $25 bourbon on the shelf IMHO. I'd grab that before the others you've listed.

Maker's Mark 46 is tasty with a lot of forward, caramel sweetness.
