Well I guess I am going to stir the pot up a little but in my opinion the 10 year old is an excellent bourbon well worth the price. I actually think the 12 is a little overpriced. (but still very good) The 2011 15 year old i still think is an absolutely superb bourbon. I have had 2 seperate bottles and enjoyed both immensely. I think the profile of the whiskey has changed but I also feel some of the "foundation" set forth in the SW 15 year old is still very evident in the 2011 edition.

To my palate I clearly prefer the 2011 15 year old to the 20 and 23 year old (both of which still have SW juice in them).

I think SW was an amazing distillery but I also think we tend to magnify the mystique since it is silent. I would love to see the reaction if Buffalo Trace ever closed its doors and people couldnt get their hands on the BTAC. I think the statement that we wouldnt be willing to spend $120 on BT bourbon would go out the window pretty quickly with those bottles selling well above that price point.

I also agree that if you are having a hard time finding the lot b 12 year old see if you can lay your hands on the WL Weller 12 year old. Excellent bourbon at a great price

Unfortunately, while I see the Antique and the Reserve, I dont think I've ever seen the 12. It's like AA 10 year old. I see the regular AA, but have looked all over Phoenix and not found the 10yr.

But I will keep looking. :P

I've never owned a bottle of Pappy, past or present. . I've tasted Pappy 15 (09)..... thanks to the generosity of a fellow member of another bourbon forum. It was very good, no doubt about it. But, I can't get it, find it, or have the desire to try and track it down.

At this point, I think the Pappy thing is just out of hand. It IS very good bourbon, but it isn't worth the price, time or aggravation of aquiring it, to me. I'll leave it all for you guys with more motivation to track it down.

I have been told by some vendors to move on, and that it is going to
Take a great deal to acquire a bottle.

So, aside from the w l Weller 12 year, what other brands would you recommend
That I try?

I have Elmer t lee, Pure Kentucky XO, Woodford Reserve.

Is the George T Stagg or William LaRue Weller, or the Eagle Rare 17
Going to be as hard to get as the PVW- or ORVW??

I thank you for helping this newbie out.

The BTAC, in some areas, can be just as hard to get as the VW's.

Around here BTAC avalability is weird. You can find all the Handy you want and I know of a couple of places that has Stagg. But I've only seen only one bottle of Saz and no Weller or Eagle 17.

Try some Wild Turkey Rare Breed. It's not Pappy 15 but it's very close [to me at least]. Their Kentucky Spirit is a little less "robust" and a little higher in price but a damn good poor as well. Willett Pot Still Reserve is pretty good. Definately try the Woodford. Four Roses Single Barrel is another. Blanton's maybe, if you can get it for $40. Weller 12yo should be around $25 and is a helluva bargain.

As far as Pappy is concerned, I love their 15yo. Is it worth the price? Maybe not entirely but I can get it locally for $60 when it comes out. This is at the upper end of my comfort zone but I do try and pick up a few bottles every year. If they were asking $70, I doubt I'd put forth much effort to obtain any. I would love to try their 20 and 23yo but at those prices, that's not gonna happen any time soon. The most I've ever spent on whiskey is $70 for a couple 2010 BATC Weller and I wish I would have bought the other two. I was just a tad aprehensive to drop that kinda cash on something I have not tried.

Cheers,
RG
