Difference between OWA and Weller Special Reserve??

Unread postby JPBoston » Sun Jul 01, 2012 3:03 pm

Besides proof and age statement, obviously.

Is it truly just a slightly more watered down version of OWA, or are the tasting notes any different? I've had OWA and enjoy it quite a bit, but I have yet to grab a bottle of the SR.

I know OWA is rumored to be going away* so maybe I should just stick to that while it lasts, but I'm just curious what you folks feel are the differences between the two. Price is only a few dollars difference in my area, so really, almost identical in that regard.

* Anymore info regarding OWA's future? If it is going away, any idea how much longer it'll last?

Same mash bill. One's at 107 proof, the other at 90 proof. That's the only difference. Do you really think they can be much different?

I liked the Weller SR when I had it. Similar to Makers at a fraction of the price. Easy drinking wheater aged for 7 years and bottled at a nice 90 proof. It's good bourbon that you can enjoy on the rocks, and cheap enough that you don't have a cow when a guest wants to dump it in coke.

With SR being as good as it is at a favorable price, I haven't felt the need to try OWA.

I didn't know for sure that they were the same mashbill... hence the question. ;)
