Smooth Bourbon Without a lot of burn.

Unread postby jr1968 » Mon Jul 02, 2012 2:48 am

I have tried EWSB again and all I get is nothing but alcohol and a lot of burn.

I would like to find a Bourbon high in proof that is really smooth without a lot of burn, is their one
or am I kind of screwed ?

Thanks Guy's

I would suggest Old Weller Antique (107 proof)....

I really like Knob Creek and consider it to be smooth.... but I think it may have more alcohol bite then you're looking for, so try a sampler of that one first (they seem readily available... never seen a sample size for OWA though).

I've never tried EWSB (yet).... but it's well respected stuff, any time I've seen it mentioned, it comes well regarded. If all you get is alcohol burn from it, you may need to develop your palate for awhile before you start to get over the alcohol burn.

EWSB is good bourbon. I suspect you are drinking it wrong. I suggest sipping it on the rocks. If that doesn't work, mix an old fashioned with aromatic bitters and a little sugar.

You might like a mild bourbon like Early Times. Its an easy drink, but is a bit short on flavor, and its cheap.

EWSB is terrific bourbon, I would add a little water to it if you are getting a burn. Other than that try Four Roses Single Barrel, 100 proof but drinks at a much lower proof

Does WLWSR have a lot of burn to it?

1792, soft as a 80 proofer.

Yep, 1792 and Knob Creek are great places to start. Good flavor and a higher proof, but very smooth and don't taste industrial.
If you have anything Michter's or Pennco and would like to sell it or share it with me, please let me know.

Elmer T. Lee, single barrel from Buffalo Trace. Finishes on the palette and never makes it to the throat. Very smooth sipping whiskey.
