Does Old Grand Dad 114 use same mashbill as 86?

Unread postby dickelfanaustralia » Tue May 22, 2012 10:43 pm

Is 114 simply the same mashbills %, age, well balance of 86 just it up the proof and unfiltered?

Should I order an vintage OGD 86 or a beam 114? Never tried a beam OGD. reviews are 99% excellent.

Try as many as possible. But I wouldn't pay a premium for some old bottle, the new stuff is fine.

I bought a bottle of the 86 proof month or two ago, it was good mixed with coke, not so much on its own.

I don't see your tasting notes on OGD 86 in review section, William. I import it in my next order.

my taste i feel isnt as good as others to write an official board review so i just stick to these types of threads which are more casual. i wouldnt buy the 114 proof from my experience with the 86.

I think the 114 is one of the best bourbons on the market. I highly recommend it!

The first OGD I tried was the 114. It is a great bourbon, if a little too strong. I then went through several bottles of OGD BIB. This is a phenomenal bourbon! The store that normally had OGD BIB was out so I bought OGD 86. I wouldn't buy it again! Back to OGD BIB. Amazing how different proofs would taste so different.

I''ll put OGD 100 on the top of my list. So 114 maybe to woody. I notice in 86 OGB vintage the menthol just sat at the tonsils like a candle flame.

Maybe I get OLD 100 delivered from another state.

I just bought rare breed and beam rye local and just didnt fancy them.
I could get the unfiltered smooth bookers but I dont think im in the mood for it let alone my body something so heavy.

I notice OLD GRAND DAD has a good dolop of refined rye at the back with this herb mint that sits there. Its quite oily on the tongue without alcohol burn and its all balance. nothing is too much. I have only tried a vinatge 86 proof. I cant handle that big barreal stuff.
