Unread postby cincy-drinker » Sun Mar 27, 2005 11:15 pm

I have a empty 1 quart bottle.
circa 1960s?????
I would really like to find a full one.
Any related info would be cool.
Basically because i know nothing of this brand other than HEV HILL owns the name now.
Bottle belonged to wifes deceased grandfather just trying to get her a momento.
thanks

Seventies.

As you've noted, it was made by Stitzel-Weller before Heaven Hill bought the brand. The bottle with the label similar to today's was the "normal" product, but it they also bottled it in decanter bottles. There was a series of sports-oriented decanters and some ceramic figurals. One was a hillbilly that's found commonly on EBay and at yard sales. Occasionally you can find them on EBay unopened. Unless someone REALLY wants it bad, you should be able to get one of those for under fifty dollars.

There's an interesting story about Cabin Still and how that brand is associated with the family's loss of the distillery. Mike Veach can tell the story better than I, and Julian Van Winkle's sister Sally Campbell has already done so beautifully in her book, "But Always Fine Bourbon".
