Most Expensive Bottle of Beer

via Luxist:

"A bottle of beer rescued from the crash of the Hindenburg recently sold
at auction for over $16,000 according to This is Wiltshire in the UK. This
is significantly above the estimate placed on the bottle of $4,000 - $8,000.
The airship crashed on May 6, 1937 over Lakehurst, New Jersey where
the bottle and other memorabilia was found by fire Chief Leroy Smith
at the scene of the disaster.

Apparently the fire chief found a total of six scorched bottles and a pitcher
at the scene. He buried his treasures and then came back afterward to dig
them up and hand them out as souvenirs to his colleagues. No one knows
where the other bottles are located except for one, which chief Smith gave
to the Lowenbrau brewery in 1977, where it remains today. He kept one
bottle and the pitcher, which bears the logo of the Deutsche Zeppelin Reedrei
airline that operated the Hindenburg. Both pieces are scorched and were sold
with letters of provenance and an account of how the items were acquired."

Wow, talk about skunked beer. The beer probably went from room temp to 200 degrees.

Tutankhamun Ale – $52 per bottle
This expensive beer has a peculiar history. It’s brewed in a Cambridge laboratory from a recipe discovered in the Queen Nefertiti’s Temple of the Sun in Egypt. The beer is named after the queen’s stepson, more commonly known as King Tut. The temple, which housed a brewery, is believed to have been built by King Akenhaten, Tut’s predecessor and likely father. This beer is also limited and may be purchased for $52 per bottle.

While no where near the cost of the Hindenburg beer, Sam Adams Utopia beers are in the $200 to $400 range. Also Three Floyds Dark Lord Beers are well over a hundred if you can find them.

Dark Lord is $20, it's the scalpers that run the prices up on Ebay. Utopias is 25% alcohol and dead flat, so technically a beer, but not really. My most expensive was Baladin's Xfume barleywine at $58 per 500 ml bottle.

You guys have me 'skunked' because my max for a beer was about $20 for a 750 ml bottle of bourbon barrel aged beer that I shared with a friend. It was first rate.

Live and let live, says I. If a body wants to waste, er, ah, spend, $16,000 on an undrinkable bottle of beer, he really ought to call his momma first and see what does she think about that.

The most I believe I ever paid for a beer was $30 for a 12oz. of Bristol XXX Warlock Double Imperial Stout and it was a big disappointment, too much hype at the time of it's release. It was good, but way to HOT!
Cheers!

Wow. That's Ten Grand more than I paid for my truck! Also, you guys have me beat hands down as far as price paid for a single bottle. I think the most I have ever paid for beer was for a six pack of this Chezh Pilsner. It was the best $4 beer I ever paid $12 for.
