Ok... picked up a bottle of Rare Breed today... drinking it now...
Lovely nose... reminiscent of VW Lot B but with more fire... fruity
Vanilla, then quite a bit of rye and spice right away... tannin heavy... and a bit unbalanced... leaves a bit of a harsh, bitter after taste... very very oaky and dry
Nice long finish... the slow burn of the alcohol sticks around for a bit...
I'll have to spend some more time with this one... but overall, it leaves an unpleasant aftertaste... too much oak for me I think. Feel like I'm chewing on a soggy branch of an oak tree.
I'm gonna let it sit for a while in the bottle... and give it a try in a few weeks. I learned from my experience with ER 17 that some bourbons really do open up and improve given a bit of bottle time after opening.
Too much of anything is bad, but too much of good whiskey is barely enough.
