At its best -- and the 2008, from which you are sampling, Mike, is one of those -- the Eagle Rare 17, I think, is the underrated sleeper of the BTAC. The lesser ones can be a bit tannic and bitter from the years in wood, but elegance finds a definition in the good years such as the 2008. I'm proud that your palate validates mine, and that we each have a bottle from which to toast the other vicariously for a while, at least.

Wow.. I just tried a bit of the Eagle Rare 17 from 2007... It's now had plenty of time to open up in the bottle...

This stuff is glorious. The initial bitterness is no longer preset.. and it's just rich, viscous, refined warmth... wonderful. What an enjoyable bourbon!
Too much of anything is bad, but too much of good whiskey is barely enough.
