I read about Japanese whiskeys a while back and have been unable to find any at my local ABC stores but I will be going on a trip soon and will be going through west Virginia and Kentucky is there anyone that knows if I can pick a bottle of this up in either of these states and also has anyone tried this stuff before I have heard it is a lot like scotch

I have a bottle of the 12 yr Yamazaki. It's very good. Quite floral, sweet, and aromatic. It's a solid Scotch style Whisky.
Too much of anything is bad, but too much of good whiskey is barely enough.

The 18 yr is a pretty amazing single malt. It's has a profile similiar to Macallan 18, but with some additional woodsy, pine character. Not cheap at all, but better value than Mac 18. I prefer this to Mac 18.

If you wanna order on-line, you can find it at
a decent price (and they ship to NY). I recently
ordered a bottle and am waiting for it to arrive.
Really looking forward to trying it.

Hey Independant, Did you ever find this whisky? A friend asked me about it and I wasn't aware of it's existence until now. Everyone else, is this a scotch with that type of flavor? Smokey etc....What's the deal?

Didn't I ride a Yamazaki Rocket 350 when I was 16?

I did receive the bottle I ordered (mentioned above).
I have the 12 year and the label reads "Single Malt Whisky".
Definitely a scotch taste to it and while I'm glad I have it,
I'll probably leave it on the shelf for scotch drinking friends
to try and stick with the bourbon myself.

I've had the Yamazaki several times at whiskey shows. I think it's an outstanding whiskey and although it resembles scotch it has other qualities I've never tasted in a scotch. It was after tasting Yamazaki that I realized Japanese whiskey really is its own distinctive style, and not merely a scotch clone.

If anyone cares after a little searching I did find a Spec's with five bottles of the 12YO Yamazaki. Is this still being made by Suntory or not? I can't seem to figure that out...
