Order of Merit 12 YR Canadian Whisky

Unread postby drinkdrankdrunk » Fri May 08, 2009 3:20 pm

Just wondering if anyone has had this whisky. I recently found 4 bottles, tax stripped 1977. The only threads I found mentioning it said it was possibly blended bourbon/Canadian whiskey by Schenley. I would be curious to know if anyone has tasted it and can recommend picking up a bottle. I like finding bottles from the year I was born, but would like it too be an enjoyable drink also. Thanks for any info!

I have never met a Scotch that I liked, but I have met a Canadian or two that I would allow in my house. I guess I will have to take chance and report back.

I have had this product and found it pretty good (for Canadian!) and I would take a chance with this older product.

I believe they were. They were pretty cool looking bottles and boxes. Almost shaped like Crown bottles.

That is a good enough recommendation for me.

Message received, Jeff. :) Can't speak for that Scotch but Order of Merit was a good product, as Mike says. Good full-tasting Canadian whisky. Jackson gives it a good review in his 1987 World Guide to Whisky.

It may have been me speculating that Order of Merit was half-bourbon, half the aged neutral base of Canadian whisky. If it was such a blend, the rear label would state this. If it does not, I am thinking of another long defunct brand.

But I would go for the Order of Merit, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the response Gary. I believe I will have to at least grab one and see if it is worth buying the rest.
