This bottle of JDSB throws my theory about the efficacy of many years in the barrel being central to a high degree of subtlety in a whiskey into the trash can. This TN whiskey has great structure, incredible balance and delicacy, wondrous complexity, and restrained robustness that is characteristic of complete self-confidence. This is a George Washington of whiskey. It does not deliberately reach for 'greatness'..........the great never do........they are too engrossed in getting things right to even consider what others care about. True 'greatness' only comes to the 'blessed' in the end.........but never comes to those who have not earned it.

Great review. Well written... and some seriously good whiskey huh? That's why I was on a role with JDSB throughout the past six months. These latest bottlings are exceptional. And I think you hit the pinnacle regarding the cognac barrels. There's something going on and whatever it is = good! BB

Old bud, this is a grey horse of a different color.......... to proof my point, Imo send you a bottle from the self-same barrel and I just licked.

While I am more than willing to admit that my tastes have changed, they ain't, says moi, changed that awful much!

I assume you are still at the same address? If not, send me you newon!

Once upon a midnight dreary,
While I ponder'd, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious
Volume of forgotten lore.
While I nodded, nearly napping,
Suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping,
Rapping at my chamber door.

I sit here sipping yet another drap of JDSB.......the self-same one from the self-same barrel, a bottle of which I just mailt to yo house, Mr Hole (bung that is). 'Tis my hope that it provides you as much pleasure as it is giving to me.

" 'Tis some visitor," I mutter'd,
"Tapping at my at my chamber door --
Only this and nothing more."

A wonderful Edgar Allen Poe reverie interrupted by a damn dog, tap, tap, tapping..........."Go away Barleycorndog!" "Your sip of JDSB don't come round 'til next week!"

That dog is such a pain, I let him work me too much and am reaping the reward of being too easy. HE is not well-trained......but I am!

 'Bother me not, you cur!'

Quoth Barleycorn, "Nevermore."

Great review! I have been a fan of Jack Daniel's for many years (yes, I know it isn't "Bourbon", technically), and I've seen the JDSB in stores, but haven't tried it yet. I will see about picking up a bottle this weekend and giving it a try.
