I don't like to spend a lot for bourbon or rye and generally it is unnecessary. However, old rye is an exception, it is hard to find good old rye today for under $70.00 or so, and it has a taste profile that is quite different from younger rye - with bourbon of different ages there is more of a continuum.

However, ORVW 13 year old rye is, in fact, 19 years old (this was confirmed by Julian on SB the other day) and as he notes is an excellent buy. I believe it is selling for about what say JD single barrel sells. It's always easy to find and is very good well-aged rye, perhaps the best (the current bottlings) ever released.
