Based on all the comments thus far, this bourbon sounds like a real winner. I'll be looking forward to trying it. I certainly hope that there will be some availability throughout the country. Is the degree of distribution known at this point? Any idea of a price point?

Bob,
I don't know the price. When I do tasting notes for the Bistro, I don't get charged for the drink, so I can not even tell you what they charge by the drink. I suspect that it is very close in price to their single barrel.

Could you run over to the store and pick me up a couple? :D

People in Louisville are SPOILED!

Do they stock the standard yellow label as well? Have I told you lately how much I love you?

Jim Rutledge (master distiller, Four Roses) said this small batch will only be sold in Kentucky.

The standard Yellow label is OK but nothing outstanding. The Black label from overseas on the other hand is a bourbon worth having. If you ever get up to Canada, you might see if they offer the Four Roses Black label.

The Yellow label is made to compete with Jim Beam White label and is an 80 proof product without any objectional flavors, but without any other strong flavors as well. A good product for some cocktails, but not a real good bourbon for enjoying neat with a cigar or a meal.

The Small Batch Four Roses on the other hand would go great with food or a smoke. Enough flavor to know you are drinking a bourbon but nothing so strong that it covers up flavor from food or a smoke. I suspect that it would be excellent with a good chocolate cake for dessert.

Is this going to be a standard product, or is it just "one time"? I'd like to try some & if it won't be available at Thanksgiving I'll have my brother pick up a bottle now.
Thanks.

I was under the impression that this was going to be a steady product.

I live in hope that this new small batch expression of Four Roses is really the most excellent Euro-Market Four Roses "Black Label".
Has anyone been able to do a semi-blind compairison between the two?

Linn,
It is very similar to the flavor profile of the black label, but actually a little better. The small batch is 90 proof whereas the black label Four Roses is only 80. The extra proof gives it more flavor. The small batch has a little more spice and fruit flavors.

I like the black label too, but I will be more than happy with the small batch.
