Anyone know information about Benchmark?

Benchmark is an old Seagram's product. Actually, not that old. It was launched I think in the 1970s, making it probably the last new bourbon brand launched before the crash. Arguably, the crash was already underway. During one of the big Seagram's brand sell-offs, in the late 1980s, it went to Sazerac, along with Eagle Rare, which is what really got them going in bourbon, before even they bought the distillery in Frankfort.

I'd say so far, it's a toss up between the Old Taylor and Heaven Hill 8 year old BIB.

Man I'm envious. What a haul. I've really got to hop on my car one of these days and drive around to all the small towns nearby to see if I can find anything unusual (although my expectations are low). Kansas is one of the smaller distribution areas in the country and we don't get much.

Here's a reply I recently got from Buffalo Trace in response to my inquiry about possible distribution in Kansas.

Thanks for your email and interest in Buffalo Trace. Since Buffalo Trace was introduced it has received lots of positive press and has begun to develop quite a following. The unfortunate part has been that the demand has far outpaced our ability to produce it. For aged Bourbons of course, the available inventory has to be planned for many years in advance of its bottling. When an item like Buffalo Trace really catches hold we only have enough available based on the forecast of roughly ten years ago. We have concentrated our sales in and around Kentucky although there has admittedly some that finds its way to other markets. We have tried to make sure that we don’t formally introduce it to markets that we know we can’t maintain a consistent supply. The positive part is that it appears that we will begin to have more and more availability over the next few years which hopefully will allow more to be made available in new markets like Kansas.
