Last night I attended "The Great Whiskey Debate" at Churchill Downs here in Louisville. It featured a debate between scotch and bourbon. The moderator was Bernie Lubber, whiskey professor, and the debate was between Fred Noe from Jim Beam and a gentleman who's name I can't recall from Scotland representing scotch. We had four tastings with Knob Creek, Basil Hayden, Dalmore cigar malt scotch, and Laphroaig quater cask scotch. It was a fun event with some witty back and forth jabs between the two debaters. This was followed by a coctail hour and socializing. It was sponsored by the Bardstown Bourbon Society and about 250 people attended. In the end of course, bourbon won out. No surprise here. The Laphroaig scotch smelled like a bandaid and tasted like iodine! Whew! Sorry I don't have pictures. My camera was left at home.
