Bourbon Society

Today's Louisville paper, the Courier Journal had a great article about our Bourbon Society here in town. It was written by Susan Riegler of the paper. It's in the "Scene" magazine portion. Susan is also a member of the Bourbon Society. It also featured our glasses. (by the way, they are $10.00 each and the ONLY way to drink bourbon from). If you want one, I'll mail it to you. Anyway, it's a very good article and if you want to read it, go to: http://www.courier-journal.com and click on
"Scene".

This article has created quite a buzz about the Bourbon Society. It looks like we will have many new perspective members at tonight's meeting. If you live near Louisville, feel free to come by and check us out.

Mike (or Gayle), just curious about the Bourbon Society, how often does it meet, where are the upcoming meetings taking place, how do you announce them? How many people do you have in the group at present?

Look like to me you so full o' you own self, ain't no hole leff in you. Must be this expedition you 'bout to take that has you so worked up. Throttle yosef back a wee bit, old boy, so's you don't run out of ammunition before the war starts! And, rest asured, us BE folks are on your side cause you are our bunghole and you have been put in the canon, that is, canonized, that is, declared a saint!

Gayle, and you have any of those glasses left ab (after bunghole) put a few back for me 'til September, would you? I would appreciate it!

I would blame my breakage of bourbon glassware on Saint Bunghole, but 'cept he ain't been hereabouts. I got only one bourbon glass left, although I did find some fair substitutes and can use the glasses Four Roses gave me for trying their Single Barrel.

Gary, the Bourbon Society meets on the third Tuesday each month with alternating Monday's to accomodate those who can't make it on Tuesday. I think we currently have about 25 members. We usually meet at Bourbons Bistro, but occasionally meet at other locations.

Mike in Georgia; We just got a new shipment of glasses, so there should be plenty when you get here.

Gary,
The Bourbon Society is a group of local bourbon fans with a few out of state members, that meet once a month to discuss bourbon, taste bourbon and learn about bourbon. We also have a charitable clause to our mission statement to give back to the community. This year we are doing a 2008 calendar and we plan to sell it an give money to the Oscar Getz Museum. We also have excursions to different distilling related places and events.

It is importent to know that even though there are several members that are members of Bourbonenthusiast.com, we are actually the minority of the membership. We have many members that use the website for the reviews, but are not members. Our membership cuts across the board from lawyers, doctors and computer professionals to retired people and working class people doing things such as fire alarm specialist to pest control. The thing we all have in common is a love of bourbon and a desire to learn more.

Howie Stoops and Chris Sigmon are members who live in Maryland. If we can get a few more members from that area, we are going to encourage them to form their own chapter of The Bourbon Society. Michael Hack has expressed an interest in doing the same in California and I do hope that he does just that. When they join, everybody receives a Glencairn Glass with our logo and has a chance to get in on barrels of whiskey that we plan to purchase.

I hope this answers some of the questions you had.
