I'm going to steal Mike's thunder by announcing this before he can (he is one of the organizers), but I'm very much looking forward to tasting a range of the same product, separated by decades, especially in light of some conversations we've had about old wood and what bourbon today seems to be missing.

I spoke to Chris earlier today and we will have a chance at this event to taste Old Forester from the 40s, 50s and 60s, at least four different "historic" bottlings in addition to the new stuff. "Old Forester Signature" is their new name for the 100 proof expression.

Although it's not mentioned in the press release below, we'll also be tasting the newest release of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, which will be 96 proof and 13 years old.

You're invited to experience Old Forester's Signature Taste

What:

Join Master Distiller Chris Morris on Thursday, August 24 at the Filson Historical Society for an exclusive bourbon event, "Old Forester 100 Proof: Standing the Test of Time."

As America's First Bottled Bourbon, Old Forester represents an important piece of bourbon history. You're invited to taste a part of this rich history as we sample and savor Old Forester 100 proof from various decades starting with Old Forester from the 1940s to the newly packaged Old Forester Signature bourbon.

Light appetizers will follow the tasting.

Where:

Filson Historical Society
1310 South Third Street
Louisville, Ky.

When:

Thursday, August 24
6:30 p.m. -- 8 p.m.

Cost:

$50 per person. All proceeds will go to the Filson Historical Society, a nationally recognized center for the study of the Ohio Valley region's history and culture.

RSVP:

Space is limited. To reserve your spot call 1-800-Bourbon or email courtney_sandora@b-f.com

Chuck,
I am glad to hear that you are on Board for the event. It will be a very good night of tasting. Tickets are also being taken at the Filson. You can make reservations there by calling (502)635-5083. To be warned though. this event is selling fast. There are only 40 tickets available and 10 have already sold.

The event will be held at the Filson Historical Society that is housed in the Ferguson Mansion which was built in 1905. It later became a funeral home before becoming the home of the Filson in 1986. Ticket money is all going to the Filson so the Filson stands to profit up to $2,000.00 from Brown-Forman's generosity. Another great example why Brown-Forman is a very good corporate citizen of Louisville.

Courtney, from Brown-Forman was just here to check out the facilities for the tasting. They have sold 28 of the 40 places already. If you wish to come and meet Chris, Chuck and my self as well as drink some fine bourbon, you had better call soon for tickets. I expect it to sell out.

This event is filling fast. Brown-Forman is bringing in media from several sources and a professional photographer.

The event at the Filson last night was a big hit. Everybody had a good time and the bourbon was pretty good. A couple of the old ones had a little cork taint, but they all were interesting drinks. Chris Morris was very informative and entertaining with Chuckmick winning the big door prize - Nice crystal Old Forester decanter and glasses. Chuck Cowdery was also very informative and interesting - maybe not as entertaining as Chris, but Chris had the advantage of having us drink bourbon during his presentation! Everyone had a good time. The food was good and everybody was smiling as they left.

Chuck discussed old whiskey advertising focusing on advertisements directed towards the consumer. I hear that he has an upcoming article on the subject in Whisky, so look for at least one good bourbon article in that issue. Thanks again, Chuck for participating.

Gayle, what did you think of the whiskeys, especially the old ones?

I thought they were all good. My favorite was the 1957. I had a real nice nose, taste was smooth with a nice finish, no burn at all. This year's birthday bourbon is my favorite to date. The signature needed to sit a while but was good. A very nicely produced event. I tried to post some photos, but can't seem to make them attach.

Yes Joe, the 2006 birthday bourbon not released yet.

I'll try downsizing the photos and then sending them.
