Stagg has arrived!

I hardly ever open stuff the day I get it, but Stagg is an exception. So chewy and chocolaty. A must buy in my opinion (and I know that this being my first post, my opinion counts for nothing, but still...)!

And now for something completely different. Mixed drink suggestion: 50:50 mix of Stagg and Laphroaig.

2009 compared to 2008. Caveat: I'm no expert.

IMHO

Assessed neat: room temp fresh pour, room temp slightly aired, and hand warmed.
Color & nose identical. Taste was virtually identical, as if from two barrels aged side-by-side, and any difference was probably my imagination.

Well I just put my case of 09 away next to the 08 and I'm going to have to commit the proofs to memory as they are both 141.x

I just located the last bottle of 2008 some local chain with 3 stores had at their most remote store, and they are waiting on 2009 to arrive so I should have that one nailed down as well.

Also in non-bourbon news located Sazerac 18 year from another store that's about an hour drive away.

Found this Stagg and the Eagle Rare 17 @ my Total Wine & Spirits and had to buy both. Might even go back for some more Stagg as they had about 5 bottles and this is one helluva bourbon. Im also using it to peel paint! :)

Buying more Stagg is Always a good idea. But leave at least one for someone else if you can :)

Stagg and Laphroaig are both excellent, but the thought of them mixed doesn't sound particularly appealing.

I've heard a lot of folks saying that the 2009 and 2008 are identical tasting, but to me I thought the '09 was a little fuller and richer -- some bolder (if that's possible!) flavors up front and a rounder finish. My 2008's been open for quite a few months, though and the 2009 was freshly opened. If you can improve on perfection, I think this year's Stagg has done it.

I think the opposite of the WLarueW which I thought was slightly better last year -- this year's is a little rough on the finish and drier on the palate, I thought.
