Greetings all: I was left several bottles of 50 plus year old Bourbon... All bottled in Bond.. dating from 1952-1961... Old Forester and Old Grand Dad.. Stored in the dark and in a cool cellar until just last night.. I just opened a 1952 Old Forester. It is in perfect shape. The first thing I smelled was butter roasted Southern Pecans... The entire room filled with this aroma.. I poured a drop in an old crystal glass and swirled it around a bit.. The smell was like the combination of hot duck fat smeared on candy toasted pecans..

I have 2 bottles in this Space Age design... More to taste!

You said "Space Age design". Is that the tear drop, space ship looking bottle, with the big white nipple-like cap on it and a white base?

Greetings> My bottles of 1952/1957 (2) are with a gold bottom and top. I would love to send a picture, but do not know how... but picture this.. it's space age, like a satellite. gold base, gold top.. really interesting like a lava light!

but inside, that is what is so sublime. It's a shame that it's winter... too cold to pick the mint that serves me well in the summer. There is also an artisinal spring that gushes up from a tree out in the woods... this bourbon, some cracked ice (made from branch-water.... in a silver cup (copper core) I can only dream of that time a few months in the future.

Tonight I will try a younger (if you can say that) old grand dad. 100 proof. bottled in bond.. stored in the dark for over 50 years.. waiting. ... my grandmother wanted to pour out the bourbon and make the bottles into vases!!!

needless to say, these rare bottles await me...

will report to this forum as I taste them. cheers! wb

Lava lamp would be a better description of the bottle I am thinking about, thank you.

At a recent Houston get together we were teased with this bottle. It was shown to us by the host of the party. As soon as the drool started to hit the floor, the bottle was taken back to it's hiding place for safe keeping.

I agree the bottle was pretty cool, but that damn bourbon looked so tasty also.

Please send more tasting notes!
