This message has been approved by Mark :angel7: (in my best Presidential campaign voice)

I have the same message on BD.com as well

Folks,
I am working on a barrel purchase with an unnamed party (err... they have a name, but not to be mentioned on the thread to avoid any strange .com battles). PM me and I will gve you all the details...

I am looking to see who would be interested from here(BE.com). There is no commitment required. The deal will work out where you can purchase as many as you want and have shipped to you (cost of bottles and shipping - no handling charge from the distributor). Overall cost for these will be less than if you buy them at the store ($5-10).

I am going to work on a combined BD and BE logo sticker...

The goal is to get cask strength, but details will come over the next few weeks. Barrel purchase would be around June/July and Bottling Sept/Oct. We will be going to BT for this.

There are no worries about getting enough people to purchase... I will happily own all of the extras - but again... I do not see this as an issue, I am more concerned about having enough for everyone :D

Best part is that Devin (if he chooses) and I will be going to taste the barrel prior to purchase… Mark and Chris could also attend if desired...

So, who's game :?: :?: :?:

It sounds like a lot of fun. I have read about purchasing a full barrel of whiskey. In the Social History Of Bourbon it says an individual can buy a full barrel from a distiller. The whiskey from the barrel has to be bottled into labeled bottles and go through a distributor before most of us would get it. As Spun Cookie mentions the purchaser can design a custom label. So you get a bunch of full bottles and an empty barrel. I am thinking when cask strength is mentioned you guys are also thinking non-filtered, like Stagg or Bookers? How would the bottles be sent, and the cost? It's really interesting. Keep us informed.

One more ?

So would the distributor send the whiskey to a local retailer for us to pick up, or home address?

Some of us did this several years back. How it was then was that they had to ship it to a retailer. Best if you know the retailer. They have to sell it to the retailer for what they would sell the product for normally. Then it is up to the retailer to decide how much, if any, they will charge you for the product. The whole shipment has to goto a retailer so someone would have to pick it all up and then either be willing to ship people allotments out to them or have everyone come to them to pick it, up, wait until a time like the festival and grab it then etc. We did Buffalo Trace and let me tell you it was the MOST PHENOMINAL single barrel of buffalo trace i have ever tried. We wanted to do a barrel proof but because of all the government bullshit to put it frankly it would have meant creating a label and costing a lot of money... So doing a single barrel version of your favorite pour that's usually a 'mix' is just as good with me.

I hope to see a lot of people get involved in this who can work out the details of picking up their share. Trust me, if you make it down for the picking of the barrel it sounded to me from the people who went the last time like it was a blast to do. And the rewards are great, heck, your own barrel. Oh, speaking of the barrel, they also offered to send us up the barrel. I took my half of the barrel and cut many pieces into small chips and used them in my smoker. The head of the barrel was signed by everyone while down there and saved as a souviner.

To help? Just start drinking and make some room on your bourbon shelf!

I'm putting up an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling shelves on a 13 foot wall... Figure it ought to work for my collection for about 6 months until I outgrow it!

:)

No worries folks... got 'er under control. Looks like we may go for a half barrel... Will let you know... working the details now...

We will have to stay with an already created label... so that may limit things a little... but I will let y'all know the choices as soon as I can.. we will do a little vote on our options...

One option went away when BT decided to no longer produce the Weller Centinnial...

One thing that I know BT does alot, and I've tasted several and each was truly unique, was eagle rare single barrel. Now its usually a 10 year product but several private bottlings I've tasted were actually 12, 13 and even a 14 yo product so who knows what they might offer agewise once there... Oh, and not to mention it doesn't end up coming to alot of money like some other might... I think it was selling for $20 maybe $21 but that's because the store who keeps doing these bottles wasn't upping their charge alot either...

Quick update:

Still waiting on a list of options. I have fed back a list of questions to try to get the best variety we can get to choose from (proof, style, filtering, etc).

Label laws will be the biggest hindrance for getting something outside the norm for bottling, but we will have a great selection of whatever we down select to for quality.

Lot of interest, as expected, so the plan will be to post on BE and BD.com the list (once I have it) and tally a vote (probably use a poll of some type… maybe just on BE.com – Not sure Devin has polls setup)

Looking like we will get a pretty good selection for a ½ barrel or full barrel and then maybe get 1/3 barrel of a Pappy 15 as well.

Another question for you all:

Would you want to pay a couple dollars more to get BD and BE.com stickers (the logos) put onto the bottles? I am going to work with a sticker maker to get some prices. Will let you know.

I'm interested, to say the least. Who do I contact to cement my name on the list?

I'm definately in! I would like a few bottles. What is the date of the barrel selection? I live close to Buffalo Trace and would like to be there.

I'm late to the game but I'm interested if there's still room. Thanks.
