First I apologize by not introducing myself. I hope I don't offend or brake from the norm. I am new and was wondering if anyone could point me to where I can find what the bottle codes might mean on the pappy 23 label?

Any help would certainly be appreciated!!

Rob

Define "bottle codes."

If you're asking about the alpha-numeric ID numbers, those without a letter prefix were the first two bottlings: from Lawrenceburg in 1999, Frankfort (Buffalo Trace) in 2003. The 2005 bottling has an "A" identifier. Since I've not seen a 2007 bottle around here (it doesn't sell that fast), I can only assume the number begins with a "B".

Thanks TNbourbon. That was what I was looking for. A local vendor had a bottle with the A code and one with the B and I was pretty sure they would be different but did not know how they would differ.

The A is heavier in Oak, but not bad... The B is amazing... I recomend the B

I've not had the '07 bottling -- except at barrel-proof -- but I agree that the '05 ("A"-prefix) bottling is over-oaked. If all else is equal, opt for the 'B'.

How did you get the barrel proof?..

I helped select a couple of single-barrel bottlings. We tasted 6 barrels, both at barrel-proof and diluted to -- well, who knows, since it was eye-balled, and each barrel varies? (And, I'd previously gotten a liter barrel sample of 1985 distillate in a trade with Preston.)

Can I get some

No, it was essentially pre-sold. You may assume by the fact I've not tasted it at bottle-strength that I didn't buy any. I've tasted Pappy 23 enough times now that the mystique of three-figure, current-issue bottlings is gone for me when I can get multiple other fine bottles for the same dollars.
No one need agree with me there, granted.

Yep, I have a couple bottles of the B, and it is a bit less oaky than the A, which I had before these two.

Now, if only Julian would put some up here for us to have access to, 'eh?
