Just got me a 1.75 of Eagle Rare 13yo

One of the local liquor stores has a close relationship with BT. They occationally go down and hand pick barrels to be bottled for their store. In a previous posting I described a Weller 14yo at 100 proof they had for sale. (Kick ass BTW)

I stopped by the store today and was checking out another of their special bottlings. They picked out a barrel of Eagle Rare that was 13 years old and had it bottled at the normal 90 proof. They are mostly selling 750ml bottles but had also filled (30) 1.75 litre bottles. They numbered them and had Mark Brown and Chris Comstock sign them.

As I was admiring the last of the 30 bottles my wife (who is a bad influence in these situations) came over and said "why don't you get it?". Well I was trying to be good to my wallet so close to Christmas, but I am weak, so it came home with me.

There's a place in NJ that bought 3 barrels recently as well. One was an 8 year old Elmer T. Lee, one was a 13 yo Eagle Rare sb that was put into 750ml bottles and the 3rd barrel was another barrel of 13 yo Eagle Rare. That barrel they had put into the same 1.75L bottles. Isn't that 1.75L of Eagle Rare kick ass?! When I can get a pic of it I'll post one up, those antique bottles are really cool when made into "King Kong" size.

When purchasing gifts during the holiday season, one must always start with one's self.

You're right, it just stops you in your tracks. It's simultaneously so wrong and so right ...

I recently placed on order with Brett at Binny's and added one their barrel selected Eagle Rare. I have not opened it yet, but Brett mentioned it was from a barrel that was 14 YO.

FYI: I'll be bringing one of the above pictured (signed) 1.75 liter bottles to the Gazebo for trading. I'll also have an open 750 for tasting.

Cheers!

Thanks for the trade Mike. It is surely an impressive bottle of bourbon. By the way, are you and Art going to the festival this September?

Right back at ya Joe. I had some of that bourbon just the other day. I find it similar to Old Charter 13yo, which I guess makes a world of sense. I think it has some nice additional subtleties though.

I'm not planning on attending the festival in Sept. :(
There are only so many times per year one can run off on a Bourbon vacation without taking heat from the family :)

I need to discuss with some of you the differences between the Fall Festival and Spring Sampler. I'm sure they are quite different and both have their good points.

I need to decide which one to try to get to next year.

Cheers,
Mike
