Pappy 23????

Unread postby srice » Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:25 am

Last weekend while going through my bourbon vault, I realized that I was getting low on my stock of Pappy. I then remembered that it is December 2005. This is the 4th anniversary of the initial bottling of Pappy 23. According to the VanWinkle website, "Next bottling planned for December, 2005." Does anybody have any details on this bottling and when it will be available? - Steve

I saw it being bottled Monday and Tuesday this week. Probably available in KY pretty quickly. Julian was there on Tuesday keeping an eye on things. I was surfing earlier this week and just happened to click on the BT webcam and saw it.

I met Julian and Preston at a tasting in Louisville last Friday evening.

They were pouring just about everything in their line. I got to taste the 23, and walked away with signed bottles of 20, 15, and 12.

Julian said they would probably be back on 12/22. I am assuming (I know. Don't lecture) that it is to roll out the 23.

If anyone is interested in meeting me there, send me a PM.

The Pappy 23 just hit the shelves in New Jersey. It's $210.00 a bottle. Expensive, but one of a kind. What the hell, If your name is Bourbon Joe you should have a bottle, right???

Pappy 23!!!!

I just secured my bottle and it was quite a job to get one here in bourbon land KY. After putting my name on numerous lists, to no avail, it took two calls to a Louisville west end liquor store before I could talk the owner out of a bottle. :D I promised the owner that I would give it a good home and not sell it out on the Ebay market for $1000. Oh yea! :geek:

The price I paid was one penny shy of two hundred dollars. My wife is gonna be wondering where my priorities are.

Bottle number A830

Now that you have a bottle, has anyone cracked them open and had a splash of the Pappy 23?
I noticed you had the 20 at your pre-Christmas tasting Joe, but no 23. Are you saving it for a special occasion?

I'm interested to hear what your thoughts are about such an old bourbon.
Especially since I probably won't have the pleasure of tasting it anytime soon. :(

Art,
I didn't get the Pappy 23 yet and, when I do, I probably won't open it right away. For that price, I'm gonna hafta stare at it awhile before I drink it.

I understand completely Joe. I'd treat that stuff like liquid gold if I had me a bottle!
I haven't even sprung for a Pappy 20 yet, but I probably will soon.
Hell, it's only money, right? :)

Yes Art, and the Pappy 20, recently tasted against a bunch of very high end bourbons, came in as number 1. It's super stuff and highly recommended. For some reason, I get maraschino cherries on the finish.

I'm a huge fan of the Pappy 15 and been itchin to try out the 20.
After hearing your take on it I might just pull the trigger and pick up a bottle
that's only if Santa hasn't been paying attention and doesn't bring me one this weekend.

Art,

You gotta try it. At WhiskyFest a number of years ago, I tried Pappy 20, after tasting a bunch of great Single Malts. At the time, I was very much into Single Malts, and not so much interested in bourbon. Tasting the Pappy 20 changed my mind about that. The rest is history. :D

That Pappy 20 must be some very special stuff indeed.
Unfortunately it's price reminds me of single malt Scotch, but I'm sure it's worth every penny! :santa:

I saw a post by Julian (somewhere) that put the number around 1400 bottles and it seemed like there was going to be another bottling run in Jan. :)
