JimC,
I know you said this was a rough estimate of production numbers. Maybe we can persuade Mark Brown to give the real numbers? 8)
I must say I am glad to be having the information to work with so we can make guesses on production numbers. Thanks Buffalo Trace
I also did some calculations for how many bottles were made of this release and we are very close on the Stagg and Weller.
I know that with the Eagle Rare and the Sazerac we are not given all of the necessary information to make an accurate guesstimate. I think the missing information is what the proof is coming out of the barrel which will determine how much water was added to the products to bring them down to the 90 proof they were bottled at.
I am wondering if you have more information than what the sheets have given us?
Stagg and W L Weller are issued uncut and unfiltered which makes the guess a lot more accurate.
Anyway here are the calculation I went through for each one in case anyone cares or wants to do the math.
53 gal * (1 - % loss) this gives amount of gal left in each barrel
Not all barrels are going to be the same but those sheets
probably give the avg of all of the barrels (I hope)
Gal left in each barrel * number of barrels = total gal
total gal * 3.79 (gal to liter conversion) = total liters
Total liters divided by .75 liters to give number of bottles
If barrel entry proof is 125 and after 18 years in wood (Sazerac) with less than a third still in each barrel; is it possible to come out of the barrel at 90 proof? If it is then my calculation is 2,419.974629 bottles which is almost exactly what you have said. If the proof is more like the Stagg at 142 proof out of the barrel. Sazerac watered down to 90 for bottling would produce around 3,300 bottles.
JimC I agree there are at least 2,400 bottles and probably no more than 3,500 of the Sazerac
Also the Eagle Rare I calculated 4,286.726496 bottles at cask strength. I would bet that you could add another 1,000+ bottles when you take it down to 90 proof.
Jim thanks for your calculations it got me to thinking, and thanks to Buffale Trace for giving us this very interesting information. Also thanks to those who put them out on this site (MikeK, Jburlowski)
