The reviews of Grandad show remarkable similarities.
My recollection of National Distillers' Grandad - as close to the pre-Pro original as we'll ever get - is however quite different. I recall it being being rich and fruity without as much of a raw rye hit.
Does anyone (Mike Veach?) have in their collection a mid-80's or earlier Old Grandad? It would be interesting to see taste notes and consider them against the slew of notes for the current bottling.
