Just wondering if anyone has heard any info about this years release of Birthday Bourbon. Like any info on age, how many bottles may be produced, will there be more than one offering again(!), proof etc.

I have enjoyed just about all the past BB's as I like how each was different and really showed the difference between age, location during aging etc. But I also relelber many saying how bottles although sold out fast in many places many others sat around elsewhere. I woner if that will keep them from doing it every year or if it'll jsut make them bottle less and release it only in area's where it was selling good.

Brown-Forman is having a cocktail party at Bourbon's Bistro on the 23 to let the press sample this year's Birthday Bourbon.

Sounds cool Mike, I assume your going to try and attend? If you do make sure to let us know the specifics you can get about it and your overall impressions.

I am planning on being there. Tuesday is my normal day for dinner at the Bistro anyway, so I registered to go to the tasting. Chris has said that this year's version will be 135 months old to celebrate the 135th anniversary of Old Forester. I assume that is still the plan. I know he was also planning on a 135 proof, but Mr. Brown vetoed that idea. However it ended up, I am sure it will be an interesting bourbon.

Mike - would find out for us how many barrels were chosen and how many bottles were filled?

I never saw the spring up here. Was there a spring this year, and I've just had my head buried in steel framing and dumpsters? (Yeah, building a house is hell! Just ask Mark!)

There was not a spring version this year so you did not miss anything. I assume, this year's version will be released to the public on George Garvin's Birthday in September.

Went to the tasting last night for the 2005 Birthday Bourbon. It is an excellent product that is a little over 12 years old (made 2 June 1993) and aged on the lower floors of the warehouse and bottled at 94 proof. These are heated warehouse so if you believe that it adds maturity - Brown-Forman says 4 years age in three years because of heat cycling - that would make it an equivelent of a 16 yo bourbon. The bad news is there is only a little over 6,000 bottles produced.

Benda was there as well and took pictures and also a copy of my tasting notes. She promises she will post them all soon.

By the way, they did say that it will be in stores in time for George Garvin Brown's birthday of September 2nd. I assume that is nationwide.

Mike taste note is cool. Sounds to me much like what pre-batch 90 Woodford was, but older.

Seemingly too an example where cycling can result in a very good product.
