I'm with the United Nations Endangered Species Program (UNESP).
In the interest of preserving this species I strongly urge you to send at least 2 – preferably 5-10 individuals directly to me. We’re conducting breeding programs as well as establishing a “save heaven” for those poor creatures. In the interest of a diverse gene pool, please send only the one specimen #166

First of all, I could never separate identical twin bottles as it would be too traumatic. Secondly, I'll save you the trouble and tell you that, based on my own research, this species is headed for inevitable complete extinction!

HOWEVER, should you ever find yourself in VA, I'll see that you get a special permit to hunt this exotic animal!

Dave

I'll have to look in the basement - I think I still have my rifle for big game hunting down there somewhere.
I'm sure that Buffalo would look nice on my trophy wall – I’m sure I can squeeze it in somewhere between the grizzly and the moose. :reindeer:

Thomas – always on the hunt

I finally had the opportunity to spend some serious time with this bourbon tonight. The more I explore it, the more I'm mystified by it. There are so many layers of flavor that every time I think I have a grasp, it once again surprises. And the finish is beyond words! The funny part is, I remember barrel #4 being the one with the "hot finish" when tasted at barrel-proof and in the diluted sample, but this stuff is entirely smooth. No twisted faces with this stuff.

Excellent choice gang!

Gary,
Yeah, I'd say we did pretty darn good. All the feedback that I've gotten has been excellent. The best thing is that we'll be able to enjoy this one for quite awhile! :D

If someone would ship me a bottle, I would be more than happy to post tasting notes that would further your enjoyment.

Sure thing Linn, I meant to ask you figuring you would love to try a bottle and as usual, forgot. Send me a pm with your addy... To VA USPS Priority mail should be about $6-7 and it'll get there in 2 days, 3 tops. We'd love to hear what you think.

The perfect way to spend the first day of 2005 is posting tasting notes for this wonderful single barrel. Damned difficult to pin down too I might add.

I just scanned through this thread but did not see any barrel information.

Warehouse?
Floor/Rick #?
Bunged On Date?

Anyway the notes are up. Thanks Mark!

AH-HA! That's the exact intel this thread needed. So it is eight summers old, and that is what I was guessing it was but couldn't be sure. Isn't warehouse I an eight story house? At any rate we do know that the sixth floor is a good damn place to age bourbon!

If I remember correctly from our visit, warehouse I is 8 stories tall. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong, guys and gals) that the other 4 barrels were from the same location in the warehouse but were very different in color, aroma and taste. They were also numbered sequentially with the exception of one barrel that was missing. Maybe it was 38???

Bob,

I believe the barrels were 34,35,36,37 and 39. All were set aside to be BT . Since the barrel was filled in the spring of '96 and bottled in the fall of '04, the whiskey is 8 1/2 yrs old. But isn't it 9 summers old?

Nice pic Linn!

That's what I call a teaser – makes me wanna have a pour myself.
Seams digital photography isn’t that difficult after all
