Enjoyed a pour of Old Fitz 1849 after work today. It's been awhile since I've had any of this, and it was good!

I mixed up an old fashion w/ old forrester. When that was gone, I put in half a shot of Fighting Cock. FC seems to be my favorite right now, 6 y/o with nice thickness to it, plenty of flavor and high proof.

This very evening, I am having a sip of a bourbon that cost me less than $10.

But, bourbon buddies, my dog, Barleycorn, snuck this in on me and asked me to tell him how much I guess he paid for this bourbon. I said, 'Not a damn cent, you mangy critter! I bought this bourbon!'

Correcting himself, he said, 'How much do you think YOU paid for this bourbon?' I laid back on my honches, took a slow sip and allowed as how I had probly paid in the neighborhood of $30 to $40 for this bottle.

Damn dog went into a coniption fit, rolling and thrashing about the floor like he had the St Vitus. I was about to kick his very ass when he finally got aholt of hisself and said, as if he were proud about it............'Ten dollars, that is what you paid, ten dollars!'

'No way, Jose!' says I.

'You think you know so much about whiskey!' says he, 'You don't know dog shit about whiskey, when you can't even tell the difference between a $40 whiskey and a $10 whiskey!'

Well, I told him if he brought this up again, I was gone throw his ash out in the street. And, I would appreciate it if you don't bring it up again either.

By the way, have you tried the Ezra Brooks 90 proof $10 whiskey lately? If not, when you do don't let your dog know what you are drinking!

Sounds like to me it ort to work. Give me the word on the outcome if it suits your palate. I think I can duplicate it in so far as single barrels allow and might want to try it. My experience with multiple bottles of both FR and EW single barrels is that they are every one very good.

That sounds good, but I think it would work the other way around too.

Think I'll lay off the juice, at least tonight and maybe tomorrow too. Last night I had enough to last for a couple of days. Started out with Capn & Coke, and a large Old Forrester old fashioned. This morning, I could feel my brain pushing against my skull.

Those sweet mixers will do it everytime! Drink it neat, or with a little water.

A whiskey sour made with EWB, followed by BT with a few ice cubes. To be followed by...? Well, we shall see!

I am sipping me some baby Saz and enjoying it to the point of it being almost sinful.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I am working on some lies to entertain my friend bunghole. The best one I can come up with tonight is that my momma was successful in teaching me not to lie.

She was a sweet southern lady who knew how to cook, how to give me a 'hickory switching' when I was bad, and never once saw the humor in telling me that I was not going in the water until I learned to swim. When I got a degree in Philosophy, she cried and told me it would ruin me...............and she was probably right.........but I might have been ruint way before then.

But then, bunghole, I am mending my wayward ways at a pace that will produce results in another 50 years or sol

Gee, is it as hard for Yankee boys to do right as it is for us Southern boys (I was always taught that girls hardly ever did bad things......less they was led into it by some bad ass boy such as my own self)?

I grabbed a couple of mini bottles today. Bulleit was awful. Not bad enough to dump out, but really harsh and rough around the edges. Wild Turkey 101 was very good, especially when considering price.

I took Mike's advise and tried Ezra Brooks 90 proof. It was $8.99 a Bottle.I was not expecting much.It was a fairly good bourbon that drank like a $20 bottle. It did not have the weight or polish that a higher end bottle would have. But for the money a very good pour. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this bourbon.I would not have tried it otherwise.I usually drink middle to top shelf bourbons.I will be keeping a bottle or two around.

Regards,Mike

Finished off the last of a bottle of Very Old Barton 100 Proof, which has been my regular pour for awhile. Great stuff. Now, I've moved onto Weller 12 Year Old from the old Stitzel Weller days. Also very, very good. Its an '05 Barrel C from the Kentucky Barrel Society.
