had a pretty good one last night. Went to a restaurant on the lower East side in Manhattan. Good place, good rep, but not one I normally frequent. Went to the bar, was going to have a quick beer to start the evening. I asked for the beer list, came on the liquor list. For fun, I turned to the Bourbon section, just to see if anything interesting was there. They had a good array of stuff, a few interesting things (16yo Black Maple Hill for one), and there it was on the list. A.H. Hirsch 16yo. Huh. I asked the bartender if they really had it, he said "sure, what's the big deal"? I asked to see the bottle, and yep, that's what it was. About double the price of the Makers Mark, cheaper than 3 or 4 others on the list. I had a double with 1 big Ice cube. That's some tasty bourbon. Will be going back...

I'm having some 17 year old Jefferson's Presidential Select. Stitzel-Weller product, distilled in 1991. 94 proof.

Been a great weekend. Went shooting & made sure my deer rifle was on. Put in the winter lawn. Saw family for dinner on Saturday. Spent the day with my wife & youngest. Grilled steak and ate on the porch. Bought a bottle of 4 Roses Small Batch. Haven't had this stuff in awhile. I forgot just how good it is. Not sure what the mix is on this one, but it's high in rye and spice. Damn good weekend.

I had a nice Kentucky Koffee recently. Coffee, honey, 2% milk, then I did something uncharacteristic and reached for the Blantons'. That was a good call.
Taken the cure.

Old charter 10yr followed by the 101, not caring much for the 101 but the 10 year is slightly above average so I'm happy to go back to it for another, might keep the 101 solely for cocktails

I actually sat down last night and had a little taste testing of some of my Jameson collection. Lined up the Jameson 18, Jameson Gold, and Jameson black barrel.

Black Barrel and 18 were my top two choices, followed by gold as a still tasty whiskey.

The black barrel had the most flavor but the 18 was smoother. I am still trying to learn all of the flavors but the apricots, nectarines, and papaya in the black barrel was very very noticeable followed by the hint of vanilla.

Im waiting to open my 2009 Jameson Vintage though, would have been a nice addition to the evening.

The 101 is not something to drink straight for sure. The 10 year is ok the best I have had was 8 year bottled from late 90s so it wasn't made by the current distiller (I am blanking on who it is currently)

Melbourne Cup today so a few mint juleps made with EC12 and the occasional champagne break in between.
finishing off with a whiskey sour nightcap made with a homegrown lemon and couple ounces of OGD 114 and half an ounce of WT American honey in place of the sugar/syrup - life is good!
