Is Sazerac Rye made in New Orleans or it's just popular there?

Sazerac rye is distilled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery near Frankfort KY and is popular in many places in addition to New Orleans.

The Sazerac cocktail is reported to be the first American cocktail and is/was made with cognac or rye whiskey, and absinthe and Peychaud's bitters. A Sazerac cocktail at the Bourbon House Restaurant bar in New Orleans is a treat, especially when accompanied by some raw oysters shucked before your very eyes..........

Had a pour of the 2012 Best American Whiskey by WA. It was Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch. Absolutely incredible and expensive.

I am sipping a personal vatting of 40% William LaRue Weller (121.9 proof) , 40% Russel's Reserve (90 proof) and Bernheim Wheat Whiskey (90 proof). The final proof is 102. This is two wheat whiskies and a moderately high rye whiskey. The proof makes it a bit 'hot' and the wheaters make it a mite softer. Methinks the proof is a bit high, so I cut it to about 90 proof and it is better......... more flavorful.

Ima Proud To Pronounce - I mean announce, that I am savoring a Super-Special single barrel pick bottled under the Willett's family label. This bottle was most generously afforded to me by the one and only 'Bourbon Joe'. It is 122.2 proof. It screams 'Birthday Bourbon' at the top of it's lungs. Quietly around the corner it is easily the long gone 'Ultra-Candy' batches of Woodford Reserve before they {Brown-Forman} added in the the pot stilled whiskey. Carefully searched for and well loved 'honey-barrels' of Old Forester.

I am blessed.

Many thanks to Bourbon Joe = A Brother Like No Other! :drunken:

Macallan Director's Edition, my first scotch ever and it is very fine has a slight tobacco leaf feel, but that could be because we smoked a lot last night. And i am very happy that i got this while i could.

One of my current straight whiskey blends, probably about 15 brands. It has Rittenhouse bonded in it as well, which deepens the flavor even in relatively small quantities. When you use this many brands, the way to adjust each bottle is add to it from others, blended or not, to get the right taste. For me it is a rounded flavor with good mouth feel and no extremes of proof, harshness, oiliness or other "faults". When you get it right, no individual bourbon is ever as good, IMO.

Had a small bottle of Woodhead Reserve Saturday night (yes, the whole bottle - I said it was small)

Too early to tell - probably take another bottle - but it was good.

Irrespective of all other considerations, you and me are whiskey friends, Old Fart.......... I respect and like 'too early to tell'. I do hope you stay in this game......... a sense of humor, reserve judgement cause judgement is way too easy (but has its place)..........

Once upon a time I was introducing bourbon to a friend in a strange place. The only bourbon available was Woodford Reserve. As we sipped and as I described what I thought was the characteristics of a great bourbon, Woodford met them.................. and yet, aside from the Birthday Bourbons, many of which are exceptional to me, the regular WR bourbon is not exceptional at all in my opinion.

Hmm.

It was just a baby bottle (375 ml), made TWO drinks :)

Next trip to TW, I'll pick up another (bigger bottle), plus maybe some Four Roses Small Batch. I swear - the dachshund picks this stuff out - I just pay......

Kentucky Spirit which i think is great not to strong but still robust and a good conversation about what makes a good bourbon with a friend.
