I haven't had a scotch I like yet, but I will at some point try some more. I have not given up hope!

I've tried a few scotches I liked... (Jon, Mark and Robbo's, Yamazaki, Oban, Tobermory 15 is excellent) and I can appreciate the peat, the smoke, the floral notes, etc... depending on the scotch... but it honestly seems to amount to a lot of fluff that I'd rather not have in my whiskey.

To me, Bourbon (and to a different degree Rye) just has the perfect balance of flavor, fire, spice, creamy sweetness and alcohol. There's nothing that compares. It's the perfect balance in a spirit.

Too many times I've had scotch, I just feel like I'm drinking perfume... I get the same thing from Brandy... They can both be highly enjoyable at times... but never like bourbon.

Picked up a couple bottles of the Black Maple Hill Bourbon... never seen it around here before... I've heard good things about it...so I'm excited to give it a try :)

Also picked up a bottle of the Pappy 23 for $169... couldn't pass it up.

I went down to Bloomington over the week-end. I can't make the trip without stopping by their biggest liquor store. I managed to find their last bottle of Weller Antique 107 (the new package), and Old Forester Signature. The OWA is to save, at least for a while. The OF is really nice for $15. I saw some other stuff to get next time, if it is still there.

Picked up a bottle of Elmer T. Lee today...

I was just so impressed with the man after watching the video of him on BT's website... I had to get the whiskey with his name on it.

Looking forward to giving it a try :)

Picked up a VWFR Lot B and a FRSB. The FR was so good, I bought another from the same barrel. Still can't find EWSB 00, I've heard good things about it.

Enzo, you will love the ETL. It is one of my favorites. Beautiful finish on that bourbon.

In my youthful days I drank cheap scotch and maybe that's why I didn't enjoy scotch for years. But I sat down and suffered through some shots of one. Another day suffered through some shots of another. Finally developed a taste. Now I very much enjoy the mid-level and premium scotch. Cheap is still cheap.

Drinking the ETL now... really nice :) reminds me of Old Charter Proprietor's Reserve 13 a little bit.... though the bottle may have something to do with that.

Definitely spicier and heavier on the Rye. This could quickly become one of my favorites as well...

made the girlfriend visit this store to make sure she got my xmas present right: Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20-Years Old.

While I was there I picked up:
Eagle Rare 17-Year Fall 2005, and Old Fitzgerald BiB ("01" in glass on bottom). Some modern dusties, if you will.

Thanks loose proton and everyone else who weighed in my lovely lass tale of Laphroaig. I like the talk. This weekend it is that galloping thoroughbred, Blanton's, Barrel 62, dumped Sept 22, '09. Here is a toast to Kentucky bluegrass and branch water....looking forward to Ravens-Colts on Sunday with my lady and Blanton's

Picked up a handle of EWB and a gift set of EWSB 99 with a barrel shaped flask. This was the first time I had seen this set before.

Picked up 3 FRSB which were outstanding! 2 VW Lot B's and a WTRR. I'm still trying to find the EWSB 00 that Independant liked. John Hansell gave it a 95!

Why did I buy these....haven't had the FRSB for awhile and wanted something different. Vatted WTRB and WTRR 90 1:1 as per fishnbowljoe and it was very smooth and tasty. Bought the Lot B's cause....well they are hard to find.
