Just got an email from Sam Wathen Medley. He says, "Wathen's Kentucky Bourbon has just completed its newest bottling with out new national bottler and distributor, Frank-Lin of San Jose, CA." Watch out! It's back!

Mmm, Wathens... I love this stuff, now to hope they don't raise the price from what it was...

Yeah, Mark, I'm with you on that one. The last order I got was much more expensive so let's hope it doesn't get any higher.

Did he happen to mention where his bourbon was distilled and aged?

Does anyone have any impressions or tasting notes regarding this whiskey?
I imagine the new batch might have a different tasting profile, but if anyone might enlighten me with a few words or perhaps a comparison to other whiskies.
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find it anywhere over here, so if it’s as good as you say, I might have another “convincing” argument for my holiday in America campaign. :director:

It's my understanding that the Medley's had a bottling problem, not a supply problem, and the new bottling will be the same whiskey as before. Suspected source is some whiskey distilled at Glenmore when Charles Medley was master distiller which he bought from them and warehoused. That being said, I find his earlier bottlings, ie '98, to be slightly better than his '03, but still very good. This bourbon has a unique taste to me....I call it a buttery bisquit taste......IOW rich. I like it alot and am looking forward to tasting the new release.

No, I didn't get into source questions, but I think doubleblank is right on the money. Last I heard from Wathen's, they had lost their bottling source and were in search of a new one, but the whiskey was to be the same. It is a fine buttery biscuit, Randy. Hmmm...I haven't had breakfast or lunch yet....

I saw it in Louisville a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get any. I would be more interested if I knew what it is, i.e., if it's Owensboro whiskey (interested) or just another bottling of Heaven Hill (not interested).

LeNell,

Any recent news on when Wathen's will be available? What price range had it been in when it was most recently on the shelves?

I've seen '04 on shelves in both KY and TN recently, but haven't tried it. I can (and do!) still buy occasional bottles from the late-'90s around here, so, fortunately, have had no need to worry yet about the provenance of the recent bottling.
