Trying Buffalo Trace for the first time.

I tried Buffalo Trace for the first time last night.
When I try a new alcohol I will always take the first sip neat, then I will add ice to finish it.

I found the first sip to have a nice rich flavor, with just a bit of a bite at the end. I will also say that this is the first bourbon I have sampled where the first impression was the taste of the barrel. It has a very oaky flavor.

I then put it on ice, allowed the ice to cool, and slightly dilute the bourbon . It remained favorable and the effect of the ice reduced the bourbon burn.
Over all I enjoyed it as a stand alone drink, but next I think I will make a mint julip and try it that way.

I finally got around to trying the Buffalo Trace in a mint julip.
I took eight leafs of mint and muddled them.
I made a simple syrup with half water half sugar, and two leafs of mint.
I poured the simple syrup over the muddled leafs, then filled the glass with crushed ice.
I added an ounce of Buffalo Trace bourbon to the mix, and lightly stirred it.

I sat back had a drink and really enjoyed it.

It was good but the next time I will use less simple syrup, and more buffalo trace:)

I make my second attempt at the mint julip. This time I cut the simple syrup in half, and enjoyed it much more. I think the first time the simple syrup masked the flavor of the mint. This this time there was a nice blend of the bourbon, simple syrup and mint. Very enjoyable.
