microdistilling and why bourbon does not taste like it used

Ok, I am new to this group. Let's start by getting everyone's feelings on what microdistilleries are doing wrong, and why bourbon does not taste like it used to.

forgive me for being blunt here, but this topic is a bit vague. it's similar to an audiophile walking into a room and saying, "let's talk about why cd's sound like shit and how vinyl is the superior format."

both statements presume folks agree with you and it also assumes that people even know what you're talking about.

please unpack...

Everyone here knows my strong opinions about the first question and so does Tom, but I really have to question the second part. We, in some general ways, have discussed things like older wood for barrels, lower distillation proofs, but basically I challenge the premise too. Unpack indeed. At least, different as compared to when? Ten years ago? Forty years ago? One-hundred years ago?
