Westside,

The 2003 had 2 bottlings, Spring and Fall, both barreled in the same year, 1990. The Spring was the "Whiskey of the Year" in Malt Advocate mag. The Fall gets a lot of votes for being better.

My vote goes to the Fall as well, I thought it was smoother and a bit more rounded than the Spring. I'm not putting the Spring down though, it is good, but if I had a choice of either in a store my money would go for the Fall.

I like all of the Birthday Bourbons so far. I like the concept of a different style every year. I know some have made a fuss about this year's offering not being as old as the past two years but that does not matter to me. I think this year's taste different than the other three offerings, but I like it so I will not complain about age. Older is not always better in bourbon and the old timers believed the best bourbon was between 6 and 8 years of age.

On the 2003 Birthday Bourbon I have to agree with Mark, I liked the Fall version better of the two.

Thank you, gentlemen! While my internet retailer of choice only has the Spring bottling in stock, I think I'll still take the plunge.

With the two 2003 bottlings, I keep flip-flopping. Right now I'm leaning toward the Spring, not necessarily because it's better per se, but because I'm really intrigued with the 'dark fruit' notes it has. If you're new to tasting, or think tasting notes are a bunch of hooey, try Spring '03. You'll be writing your own notes with language like "black cherries", "plums", "raisins", etc.

Fall is less unique, but probably more balanced and in the strictest sense a better overall bourbon. Nice spice notes.

I never did do a blind compairison between the 2003 Spring & Fall. I drank the spring in the fall when it came out and drank the fall in early summer (I think or whenever it was that I got it). I empty bottles of birthday bourbon with reckless abandon.

I think it is time to do another 15 point blind comparison. I think I have an open bottle of all of them right now. If not I will open them. When is everyone coming over.

I'll be contrary and vote for the Spring. It seems a little more unique, if not as well balanced.

I just ordered my Fall for the store. Took a while for it to get to NY. Haven't had a chance to try any of it, yet. It's landing here on Monday. I had a whole case of the Spring that last all year. Was surprised that not that many people jumped on it. I accidentally sold one of them for $20, and the guy had the nerve to tell me he didn't like it later.
