The big talk at the festival

Unread postby bourbonv » Sat Sep 15, 2007 10:35 am

This year all of the distillers are discussing the article in Thursday's Courier-Journal about Angastura purchasing the Medley distillery in Owensboro. Mark or Bob may want to look for the article and post it in business news. The gist of the article is that they already own the Seagram Lawrenceburg, Indiana plant and now are getting into bourbon. They hope to make about 80.000 gallons a year and at least become a player in the Far Eastern market, if not in the United States.

The article does not say whether they are hiring Charles Medley as distiller, but I do hope they do so - he can be a bit hard to work with in the corperate world, but he makes some damn good bourbon that reaches a peak flavor between 8 and 12 years old. They would get great bourbon that could be a premium product in a relatively short amount of time. At 4 years old they would have a top notch bourbon to sell.

I had heard thru the grapevine that the Medley Distillery was being prepared to resume operations last spring. One way to check out such rumors is to look and see if their permits are in order. So after a little research, IIRC they have in fact applied and received permits to resume operation of their boiler (air permit) and to discharge water into the nearby river. So Charles was getting it ready to operate, we just didn't know it was to be able to sell it.
