I heard Old Charter 12yo was being discontinued. :omg: I bought a bottle last night just in case because I wanted one for my collection. Anybody else heard this or know why? :?:

I'll see if any local stores have a bottle... Just to be safe!!! Old Charter is currently one of the few bottles on BourbonDrinker.com to be rated 5 out of 5! Better safe than sorry.

If nothing else it is a good excuse to buy another bottle. 8-)

Old Charter took some price increases recently and they also have been allocating stock. I've heard that too, about the Classic 12. I haven't asked if it's true, so it's just my guess when I say I doubt they'll do that. There's not much reason to discontinue a product unless its sales really crash. What they may do is pull it out of some markets where its sales are minimal, to put more product into the markets where it does well.

Alas, I checked for Old Charter 12-Year in a couple local liquor stores---but with no luck.

My town has a rather limited selection of Bourbon and if I don't slow down I'll have exhausted the selection in no time!

During the Hard Hat tour with the Bourbon Society, we were told they are discontinuing the Charter 12. They want to streamline the brand and use the whiskey for the 13yo Proprietor's Reserve. I personally would rather see them eleminate the 13yo and keep the 12yo.

Old Charter 12 is in every liquor store in Dallas. But, I can't find a single bottle of Rittenhouse Rye. I really don't care for Old Charter. That's the way it usually goes.

Assuming they are discontinuing it, as in most cases the product will take a long time to finally disappear.

I think it's good whiskey and a good value, but not particularly something I will buy up whenever I can.

Quite honestly, ladies and gentlemen, I expect this shortage to be with us for some time, as in several more years at least.

I largely agree. The 12yo is a solid whiskey and a great value. The 13yo is a bit nicer in some ways, but considering its price point, it is not twice as good as the 12yo. But I can see why the move is obvious. Stocks are short, and if you can sell basically the same whiskey for twice the money, that's an easy call.

Sad to see it go, I'll be picking up a few bottles in September for the bunker.

Cheers,
Mike
