When you taste different fruits or spices in any whiskey it is due to the cogeners contained in incomplete distillation, which is to say that whiskey isn't vodka.
Also further flavors are derived from the maturation of the bourbon in new charred white oak barrels.
Some flavors derive form the imagination of the imaginer, which is to say that some (if not most) whiskey writters are clueless as to what in hell they are actually tasting, and therefore just make it all up - as in total fiction.
Yes, I know that all fiction is "total fiction". Incomplete fiction is, well, politics with a spin. And Viagra...With a big cigar.
