Rare bonded medicinal whiskey from prohibition, it was only available with a prescription.

I can't believe you guys have this stuff and won't try it with a taste comparison to a typical rye of today (Jim Beam's, Pikesville, Rittenhouse). Are they similar, different, different universe... How about it?

They are quite different. I've tasted pre prohibition whiskey and I've tasted modern whiskey.
You can taste the age of the old whiskey, it's like how old books smell different from new books.
The problem with opening these very old bottles, you have to decide if it's worth losing $400+ to taste some whiskey because that's how much collector value the bottle loses as soon as you open the original seal.
As for me, I'm more of a collector than a drinker.

Well that is very helpful, thank you. The old books analogy makes we wonder if somehow they suffer in the bottle all those years, it is hard to tell..

Gary, We tasted ours with friends and it was really quite good. Best and smoothest Rye they ever tasted, two of them were bartenders.

HH BiB has been elusive lately. I find the JTS Brown 4 year old and a 100 proof Old Bardstown at 6 yo. Have they relabelled the HH BiB to Old Bardstown? I've been getting EW BiB until I figure out this mystery

Although the 90 proof is still available, Heaven Hill has discontinued the white label 6 year old BIB.

Glad to hear it! I was just talking to someone the other day and was repeating something you told me eight years ago or so when Steve hosted us down in Tallahassee (when Reid was coming through there and you, BourbonRob, and I came down). Good times!
