Hirsch 16 year old

Unread postby steve512 » Sat Aug 16, 2014 4:50 pm

So I'm down to my last bottle of Hirsch 16 year old--blue wax top. On my last bottle, when I opened it the cork had deteriorated (had been in storage for some time).

Question: This last bottle has been stored upright. Should I turn on its side to wet cork or is there a risk of a bad cork affecting the bourbon? If the cork has shrunk, do you think the wax is enough of a seal to protect the contents?

Any reasonable opinion appreciated.

Never store whiskey with a cork bottle top on its side. Whiskey isn't like wine. The higher alcohol content of whiskey will deteriorate the cork.
