which of the rules does it violate, to you, that negates its ability to be called bourbon, if they so chose?
* Bourbon must be made of a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn (maize).
DICKEL IS 84% CORN
* Bourbon must be distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume).
THEY DISTILL TO ABOUT 130 PROOF
* Neither coloring nor flavoring may be added.
NONE IS ADDED
* Bourbon must be aged in new, charred oak barrels.
NEW BARRELS ARE USED WITH ALL DISTILLATE
* Bourbon must be entered into the barrel at no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume).
THE LAST TOUR i TOOK, BARREL ENTRY WAS STATED TO BE UNDER 125, AND MORE LIKE 110
* Bourbon, like other whiskeys, may be bottled at not less than 80 proof (40% alcohol by volume.)
ALL OF THEIR BOTTLINGS RANGE FROM 80-106
* Bourbon that meets the above requirements and has been aged for a minimum of two years may (but is not required to) be called Straight Bourbon.
OTHER THAN THEIR NEW WHITE DOG #1 BOTTLING, EVERYTHING IS AGED 5-14 YEARS
* Straight Bourbon aged for a period less than four years must be labeled with the duration of its aging.
ONLY THE UNAGED #1 WHITE DOG FITS THIS
* If an age is stated on the label, it must be the age of the youngest whiskey in the bottle.
ONLY THE 9 AND 14 YEAR BOTTLINGS HAVE AGE STATEMENTS
* Only whiskey produced in the United States can be called bourbon.
IT IS ALL MADE IN TN, OTHER THAN THEIR RYE WHICH IS MADE IN IN AND IS A RYE ANYWAY, NOT A BOURBON
I imagine you are referring to either the charcoal filtering or the made in TN part. It cant be called "KY bourbon", but it could be called bourbon and be correct. The laws for bourbon dont seem to negate charcoal filtering, but do negate adding things to the product (colors or flavors). If I missed something, feel free to point it out, but as I see it, if Dickel wanted to label itself 'bourbon', it could....just not "KY bourbon"[/quote]
ONE OF US IS MISSING SOMETHING HERE. NOT THAT IT REALLY MATTERS, EITHER WAY THOUGH.
ENJOY!
