Looking For a Suggestion

Unread postby BarrelAged » Fri Jun 06, 2014 10:49 pm

Hi all,

I received a gift card to a liquor store (Binny's). Looking to see what bourbon you ladies and gents would recommend I try next and also why, that is what is it you like about your recommendation(s). I have arounf 40 to play with. Currently my humble Bourbon collection consists of:
VOB BIB
EW Black
Four Roses Yellow label
Four Roses Single Barrel OESK
Jim Beam
Old Fitzgerald BIB
Knob Creek

Thanks in advance for your suggestion!

i see you like evan williams black, have you had the single barrel? i thought 2003 was better than 2004, but a very good bottle for under $40. it is sweet like the black label. or, if you don't mind spending a little extra, noah's mill is $50 and just amazing (most binny's carry it). it is like 114 proof or something, and has a little more nutty taste, similar to a woodford. i find it better with a little water. or you can support the local distilleries, koval or few. all their bottles run around $50 too. few bourbon is excellent, and koval makes various types of whiskies (including a bourbon) using millet and oat, as well as corn.

Try some WT Rare Breed, Old Forester Signature, Blanton's, and Booker's.
Cheers!

i second the Bookers vote. It has a very intense, rich profile, without being as 'hot' as youd expect of 125 proof. For a sipper, its one of my two favorites, right behind the 9 year dickel 103 proof.

seeing that you also like HH profiles, perhaps a McKenna BIB 10 year 100 proofer.

I would suggest that you consider adding Evan Williams 10 year old Single Barrel. The latest release was barreled in 2004. It is affordable and very good. Also if you like wheated bourbons, Larceny is an excellent choice in the $25-30 price range.

As simple basic good whiskies I always enjoyed Old Fitz BiB and VOB BiB. And there's nothing wrong with any Four Roses in my book.

Since the gift certificate is specifically for Binny's, I would choose one of there hand picked selections. They have numerous different Four Roses Barrel Strength Single Barrel offerings. They also have hand picked Wathens Single Barrel offering.
