Time for me to leave BE

Unread postby Mike » Mon Mar 24, 2014 5:39 pm

I have participated in this site since shortly after its inception almost ten years ago, and have learned from and enjoyed my time here very much. Few of us originals still participate and to an oldtimer it now seems that short posts and the cheapest bourbon are what the members prefer to discuss. Some seem to find me a bit pretentious.....maybe I am.

I leave BE in your hands, use it as you find most enjoyable, while here, I did.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light. - Dylan Thomas

Mike, you’re not the least bit pretentious. Your analyzing and enjoying American whiskey and having the ability to write about it in an entertaining way was a big part of what made it so much fun to visit this site. I’m sure many others would agree.

I wish you would reconsider Mike. You are among a handfull of contributors here that have truly tought me more about my favorite spirit than I thought was possible. I am still not comfortable enough with what I am experiencing (aromas, flavors, etc.) to feel confident in writing reviews but I do know what I like, and they seem to be the same as those you like as well. I feel that soon I will start writing a few reviews here and there, and when I do Mike, you will be in each and every one of them.

Cheers Friend,
Randy

Mike, you may be gone by now but I have to say your post on "The Art of Drinking Bourbon" is what brought me to this sight. Your post are never too long for me, if all I wanted to read was clippits I would stay on Twitter. I have made the comment elsewhere but for me buying bourbon is not like buying wine. I might pay 20 to 30 dollars for a bottle of wine that is consumed in one meal or at least one night and I pay even more for a bottle of port that is also consumed very quickly. So I have no problem paying 40 or 50 dollars for a bottle of bourbon that is going to last me a couple of weeks at least.

I hope you stay, but if not, know that you have helped me along the way.

Well hell, I know I'm new here but for the sake of playing Devil's Advocate, isn't the point of being a bourbon enthusiast enjoying good bourbon, regardless of if it's cheap or not? Especially in this market we're in, expensive is not at all indicative of quality. In my bourbon travels, the best bourbons are the ones you have to seek out, not the ones with the biggest price tag and the highest age. Nevertheless, good luck on your future endeavors

Happy Trails. I'll repair to my study and sample some Shackeltons' Antarctic hoard or maybe something salvaged off the Titanic.

Sure, go ahead and run away. "Well that's another fine mess you've gotten us into!" :blackeye:

And don't even begin to mention Niagra Falls!
