Old Forester and Woodford Reserve - unique bourbons

Unread postby Mike » Tue Mar 04, 2014 7:10 pm

Long have I been an advocate of Old Forester Birthday Bourbons. I have also long been a fan of Old Forester Signature bourbon. In the past, however, I have not been that much a fan of Woodford Reserve. Come I now to assert that my latest tasting of Woodford Reserve was the best I have ever sipped. Chris Morris makes a special kind of bourbon, unlike all others. It has a decided and delightful acrid tang (copper pot still used in some of the blended distillates?) that adds to the complexity of the bourbon and extends the finish in a way reminiscent (to me) of older bourbons.

Mike,
I like how you referred to Woodford having a "decided and delightful acrid tang". It took me several tries to establish a relationship with Woodford, but I knew I should like it so I kept trying it. It is now in my top list and have been searching for a descriptor for that taste. Thanks for finally filling in the blank.
