Four Roses Single Barrel

Unread postby abcgroup » Fri Jun 16, 2006 8:54 pm

Many of you kind gents (and ladies) are probably aware of this, but if you go to the great state of Kentucky, you cannot leave without a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel. Chuck recommended this to me and jesus christ...he wasn't messing around.

This stuff is superb. For any of you GA boys who haven't tried it yet...let's do some sippin'. I'm going back in August and will be picking up a couple of bottles and I'd be happy to do so for anyone in the Atlanta area (and yes Mikey...Conyers is close enough...we still need to drink together).

So, there ya have it. This shit is amazing. Worth every penny of yer $31.

Cheers,

I agree that FRSB is very good. I was surprised that, in a fairly recent tasting, it took a back seat to Ezra Brooks 12 y/o. That Ezra B is also some pretty good stuff.

Next time I'm in KY I'll have to buy a bottle. When I visited Four Roses this spring I was so not impressed by the Single Barrel, I actually almost couldn't finish the taste. So, something must have been wrong with what they gave me, how it was presented, or just me, which easily could be the case.

So, I must buy it when I'm in town again!

In 2004 at the Festival, we got to taste some 4 Roses SB right out of the barrel. Phil, is that what you're referring to (barrel strength 4R)? Or the bottled version?

No, it was the bottled version at the distillery after the tour.

There are two different versions of the single barrel, one for the U.S. market and another for all non-U.S. markets. It's possible, though it seems unlikely, that the gift shop was pouring the non-U.S. version.

Do you like Bulleit? Maybe it's just me, but I think both Bulleit and Four Roses SB have a similar spicey quality that takes a little getting used to, or, at the very least, may be offputting the first time you encounter it.

No, not much of Bulleit, I actually liked FRSB less. I must have not been in my right mind when I tried and just didn't get a good taste. Oh well.

favorite bourbon & flower (?)

Unread postby YankeeGirl23 » Thu Jun 22, 2006 8:54 am

I love roses of any color especially red and pink!! Being born in June doesn't hurt me either considering it is the month's flower. I love them all and hope to grow some next year..

Many of you may or may not know, but I am a novice bourbon drinker. My loving husband *MARK* has a better tongue and tolerance (for that matter) for this stuff. We went to our first Festival in '02 and went to Four Roses for a tour. We received a personal tour of the distillery from its Master Distiller, Jim Rutledge and was fantastic. He let us 'sample' every Four Roses product. I was amazed at how smoooth this stuff was. The stuff for the exporting was phenomenal!! Little did we know that, later on during the week, a breakfast and tour were to be set up so we signed up. We dined like kings and queens, on a traditional southern breakfast and toured for half of the tour considering we did it only a few days prior. We received certificates that 'inducted' as honorary Rose drinkers. I fell in love with this product and understand it is NOT sold here in NYC. I cherish the bottles that we have in stock :tonqe: as getting to KY is a trip and a half for us up North. I have yet to have a glass of bourbon to toast my new son, but when I do it will be well worth the wait and time it took reintroduce myself to this drink :!:
