Year from tax stamp numbers?

Unread postby MikeK » Fri Mar 31, 2006 11:03 pm

Is it possible to determine the year distilled or bottled from the numbers on a tax stamp strip? The stamp in question has the number 352529513 and I think it says Series 112, but I can't make that out clearly. I believe the bottle to be roughly 1970 vintage, but it would be nice to pin it down for sure.

Thanks, Mike

Thaose tax stamps were sent to the distillery by BATF. To my knowledge, no ditillery kept a record of those numbers as they used them, so determinig the date a bottle was filled would be pretty tough. When BATF said we could produce our own tax stamps, all the old ones were "supposed" to be destroyed. (I've got a couple left in my desk.)

Bummer.
Thanks for enlightening me on how those stamps worked though.
Good info.
